Product Certification is a a common baseline requirement for building products used in construction. The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) is committed to ensuring best practice in the building and construction industry. In doing so, the ABCB owns and jointly manages two product certification schemes to provide a nationally consistent quality of materials and products.

The CodeMark building product certification scheme and the WaterMark plumbing and drainage product certification scheme.

CodeMark.

CodeMark is a building product certification scheme. The ABCB and New Zealand’s Department of Building and Housing (DBH) manage the CodeMark Product Certification Scheme in their respective countries. The Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ) accredits certification bodies.

These third-party CodeMark certification bodies evaluate and certify products to ensure they meet specified requirements of the Building Code of Australia (BCA).

A register of CodeMark certified products is maintained by the ABCB and listed on this website. Relevant legislation requires building control authorities to accept CodeMark certified products.

WaterMark.

There is a requirement in the Plumbing Code of Australia (PCA) for certain plumbing and drainage materials and products to be certified and authorised for use in a plumbing or drainage installation. These materials and products are certified and authorised through the application of the WaterMark Certification Scheme.

Certified materials and products are identifiable by the WaterMark label, which must be displayed on the product or material upon the granting of a WaterMark Certificate of Conformity.
